Being a civil servant is the dream of many people and that is why they decide to start studying an opposition. Oppositions are not an easy path, many people drop out due to the degree of stress and involvement they require. While it is true that everyone knows people who passed the examinations almost without studying and even a bit of "luck", we also all know those people who have been studying for the same opposition for years and who are not so lucky.

Oppositions is not something that is achieved without effort and tenacityIf you want to be a public official, you will have to sacrifice (at least for a time) part of your social, family and economic life to be able to thoroughly prepare for the competitive examinations in order to access the public employment profile that interests you. It sounds easy, but the reality is that it is not. Although you should also know that the greatest reward is achieved after a lot of sacrifice, although you will have to personally assess whether being a civil servant goes with your personality or not.

There are people who are looking for a traditional lifestyle, where they do not have to worry much about things and where tranquility and comfort are the protagonists of their life (especially financially). But there are also other people who prefer to have a different life, fight in another way to achieve your dreams and that it has nothing to do with being a civil servant, and this is also very good. Everyone is free to decide what they want for their future! As long as the struggle and perseverance accompany you.

But, what is that to be civil servant? What happens when you have already passed all the oppositions and have the points and everything you need to be able to be an official without further worries?

Let's say the official is a worker like any other but with privileges and it does not have a common employment contract like you might have in a supermarket company.

In addition, the official has a series of and advantages that a worker hired by a private company does not usually have, for example:

  • Greater security and support against private companies. The civil servant does not have to fear for his employment since it is permanent. An official can work in the same job until he is of retirement age.
  • They have more employment benefits, ranging from flexible hours to more vacations, permits, extra pay, economic supplements, leave of absence ... and more things that a normal or self-employed worker cannot even dream of.
  • Private sanity.

happy officials

But being a public official can also have its negative side, so we will now talk about some disadvantages:

  • It seems that being a civil servant is the best thing in the world, but the reality is that it may not be so pretty. It requires a lot of training and conflicts of competence between personnel.
  • If you have problems in your work with another civil servant, it can be quite tedious to go to work at your job "for life." When this happens, many people have to take casualties due to depressions.
  • There are very severe restrictions on having a second job or carrying out some type of private enterprise that may conflict with the activity that you carry out in your job as a civil servant.
  • Accessing a civil servant position requires a lot of sacrifice, effort and out of will something that when everything happens may not have been of much use to you, because it will depend on your scale of values, maybe a job for life and a good salary goes with your Lifestyle.
  • To access a civil servant job, you have to show in the competitive examinations that you are the most capable person for the position, although the nerves of the moment can cause you bad tricks and even if you are a totally suitable person (and even better than many others) stay out for lack of opportunities.

To access the opposition system you will have to pass a series of tests and exams that will have to do with the type of work in question. The knowledge and merits obtained in the previous years of each of the candidates will be valued.

As you can see, being a civil servant has many advantages, but there can also be disadvantages and it will depend on your personal values whether you decide to be a public employee or not.
