Differences between master's degrees, specialists and university experts

Master's degrees

There are many occasions in which I have heard this question as a doubt in people who did not know which option to choose when it comes to continue your university studies. Before naming the differences between masters, specialists and university experts, we have to be clear about one point: the three, both masters, as specialists and degrees in university experts are continuing education studies and can be chosen when you already have a university degree (diploma, degree, degree, etc.).

With our university degree we would already have a general knowledge base in a certain field (health, education, etc.) and what we would look for when choosing a master's degree, a special degree or a university expert, would be to "specialize" in a subject in particular of all that career that we have studied previously. Therefore, it should be noted that DO NOT You can study a master's degree, a specialist degree or a university expert without first obtaining a university degree.

With this first doubt clarified, we go on to clarify the next one, which is the most common and current when we finish our university studies.

What differentiates masters, specialists and university experts?

The main difference between the three is in the study load. Let's see below schematically to summarize:

  • The teaching dedication of the Master's studies It will be a minimum of 60 credits and a maximum of 120 of which at least 10 of these credits must correspond to the completion of a final project or work.
  • The teaching dedication of the studies Specialist University It will be at least 35 credits and less than 60, and may or may not include the completion of a final project or work with a dedication of no more than 5 credits.
  • The courses of Expert University They will have a teaching dedication of at least 20 credits and less than 35, which may include the completion of a project or work with a dedication of no more than 3 credits.

Knowing this, we conclude that the master's degrees are much more extensive than the other two and that therefore their tuition price will be higher (as a rule).

Another important point to note that you should know is that depending on the career or university degree you have studied, studying one thing or another is better or worse for you. Depending on the professional purpose you want to obtain, you will have to study an expert or a master's degree. So that there are no mistakes or future regrets, we recommend that you inform yourself very well before enrolling in any of them: they suppose time, effort and money.

    The information is expressed incorrectly:
The main difference is that the Master is an official degree (according to the conditions of the European Higher Education Area) and those of specialist and expert are "own degrees" without academic validity.
If what you are looking for is the quality of the training, you can freely choose between one and the other, but knowing that specialists and experts do not have the same value as qualifications.
