The first URBAN initiative ends

El URBAN Training and Employment Program it has just trained the first 60 unemployed who have participated in it. The URBAN program combines both theoretical and practical classes for 6 months and takes place in the Valencian town of Torrent. This first promotion is made up entirely of unemployed people from the town of Xenillet.

The first theoretical - practical courses that have been taught in the URBAN plan have been gardening, masonry, plumbing and electricity. The unemployed, while developing their theoretical - practical preparation in the aforementioned trades, have received a salary that has allowed them to survive while they were being trained.

The next call for the next URBAN plan is already underway so applicants can submit applications for the courses they will start in october 2010 and will also train another 60 unemployed.

The awarding of diplomas of the first promotion of the URBAN plan has been carried out in the House of Culture of Torrent and in an area that recent graduates know well because the practices of many of them have been to regenerate the urban fabric that surrounds it. Theoretical training has been 820 hours and 90 hours additional training.

The URBAN Plan is financed by the Torrent consistory and with FEDER funds of the European Union. The plan came into effect trying to be an escape valve to stop the job destruction that was taking place throughout the area and to rehabilitate degraded urban areas.
