What it takes to study in another city that is not yours

At first glance, it may seem simple to take your suitcases and move to another city to do the university degree you want, but it is not so easy, and we want you to see that reality so that you can weigh the pros and cons of moving to another place for at least 4 years, which today lasts a university degree:

  1. Find a flat, if possible, near the university to avoid transportation costs: The first thing you should do if you have already decided to study abroad is to find a flat. If you can afford to be alone in a house then perfect, but it is a fairly important monthly amount that you will have to add to the expense that studying already entails.
  2. If you share a flat with others: You may coincide with people related to you, your tastes and values and you do not have problems, but it is not the most frequent. If you are used to living with your parents or alone and now you have to live together, friction and various problems that living together generally and normally entail will be frequent. It must also be said that surely one or more of your roommates will gradually become great friends.
  3. Learn to manage money: If you are young and your parents send you monthly money for your expenses, you should learn to manage that money so that it can come to you for everything: food, notes, books, outings, clothes, extra expenses, etc.
  4. You will not have a cook or cleaner: You will be the owner of your life but also of the responsibilities and obligations that that same life entails: making food, cleaning the house, buying groceries and at the same time, going to class and carrying out routine study schedules, of course.

Why this article? Because all of us at 18 have weighed more or less the great opportunity to go to another city to study and have some independence, but all that glitters is not gold: it has its great good things (nobody commands you, nobody orders you, no you have obligations imposed by others, nobody controls what you do, you eat what you want and when you want, go out more, etc.) but it also has its great bad things, and knowing everything, is when you can make a thoughtful, well-thought-out decision and therefore, which you will hardly regret tomorrow.
