unemployment and school dropout

Spain is dangerously close to five million unemployed. A few months ago you We talked of the ranking of countries with the highest rate of school dropout where ours occupied a dishonorable second place. Well, recently, the European Commissioner for Education, Androulla Vassiliou, has made statements from Brussels in which she affirms that the rate of school dropout is one of the causes of the high numbers of unemployment in Spain.

The Commissioner has stressed the fact that in our country many adolescents abandoned the studies early tempted by the possibility of working in a sector on the rise a few years ago such as construction. As a result of the destruction of the so-called "real estate bubble" many of these young people have found themselves in the arrest and without the academic preparation enough to face a new job occupation.

Another of the causes to which this high rate of unemployment, According to Vassiliou, it is the scarce interrelation between university education and what the labor market really demands. The solution is through a better communication connection between the University and the sectors that create jobs.

As expected, the Commissioner's statements were preceded by a report in which the objectives that the European Union has marked in Education subject referred to improving aspects such as the aforementioned school dropout, a better use of subjects such as mathematics or the training of the adult population, purposes whose goal is set in 2020.
