What are the requirements for Local Police?

Today, studying an opposition is one of the "safest" options that exist in our country if what we want is to have a stable and permanent job for life. For this reason, many Spaniards consider opposing, among many others, to Local police.

The first information you should know about these opposition to Local Police, is that depending on the autonomous community where you live and where you want to present yourself there will be some requirements or others. In other words, an opponent who wants to appear for the Granada Local Police competitions may have to meet different requirements than an opponent who wants to act as local police in Santander. Having clarified this, let's see below what are the more general requirements for Local Police, and so you will have at least these covered to ensure whether or not you comply with them.

General requirements

These are the general requirements that are requested in all Local Police competitions, regardless of the Autonomous Community where you do them:

  • Be adult.
  • Having the Spanish nationality.
  • Una Minimun height 1,70 cm for men and 1,65 cm for women
  • Lack disease or physical defect that may hinder, limit or impede the development of the activities of the Local Police.
  • Not having been separated by a disciplinary file from the service of any of the Public Administrations, nor being disqualified from the exercise of public functions.
  • Lack of antecedents criminal charges for malicious crimes.
  • Affidavit of commitment to bear arms and use them in the cases provided by law.

In age there may be variations depending on the Autonomous Community (but this data is pending to be officially reported):

  • Castilla la Mancha: not exceed 32.
  • Castilla y Léón and the Balearic Islands: not exceed 33.
  • Catalonia: the maximum limit is 45 years, without prejudice to the fact that the local entity may set a lower limit in the Regulations or in the corresponding call.
  • The Rioja: not exceed 31 years on the day the deadline for submission of instances ends.
  • Madrid: minimum age 21 and maximum 30.
  • Navarre: not exceed 35.
  • Basque Country: not exceed 32.
  • Andalusia: not exceed 35.

Another variation can be given in the different driving licenses:

  • You must have the A, B and BTP driving license.
  • En Madrid You must have a driving license A with 2 years experience and B with a BTP authorization. The 2-year experience with the A card may be replaced by a theoretical-practical course that will be taught at the police school once the place is obtained.

Other variations in studies:

  • Baccalaureate Degree, FP II or equivalent for all the Autonomous Communities but with the exception of: Aragon, Catalonia, the Basque Country, Madrid and Ceuta, which require a School Graduate, FP I or equivalent.
