The OECD recommends that Spain strengthen the subsidy for the long-term unemployed

oppositions2017072013a

This recommendation is mainly made thinking that all predictions show that next year unemployment will affect 27,8% in Spain of the working-age population. At the end of 2007, 20% of the unemployed were long-term, that is, they had been unemployed for more than a year.

The situation worsened in the latter part of 2012, when 50% of the long-term unemployed were already unemployed. This dramatic situation has prompted the OECD to call on the Government of Spain to strengthen subsidies for those long-term unemployed that already exceed two and a half million people. If we do not follow these recommendations, we would find ourselves in a daunting scenario of millions of people served by social assistance mechanisms.

The recommendation comes from the report "Employment Outlook 2013" The authorship comes from the same Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development headed by the Mexican Ángel Gurría. The international body justifies the reinforcement of unemployment benefits because they behave as automatic stabilizers in times of economic crisis like the current one.

Other recommendations made to Spain to fight the scourge of unemployment include creating a one-stop shop for the unemployed to seek employment, creating a collaboration between public organizations and private companies to create employment and create the conditions so that the unemployed are in a situation of Stand by in order to work.

The employment horizon in Spain drawn by the OECD is not at all promising as it announces that during 2014 the unemployment rate will still remain very high. The countries that are part of the OECD add 48 million unemployed which means an increase of 16 million compared to those in 2007.
