In the heat of the era of use of the most modern technology, where you buy from a mobile phone, drive a vehicle recharged with a plug or send an email in a matter of seconds to the other side of the planet, in the middle of a whirlwind of rush, stress, smartphones and digital tablets still coexist a generation of people who cannot read or write.
The figures of illiterate in Spain they reflect a reality anchored in the past, where work was imposed on any type of culture, an education to which women, simply because they were, had no access due to lack of rights. Currently, more than 800.000 people live with us with a cultural level below the minimum, that is, they cannot fend for themselves to read or write under the same conditions as the rest.
Within this figure 7 out of ten are women, many of these women (more than half) have already passed seven decades of life, any of them can be our neighbor, our grandmother, our mother ... In the rest of the world there are figures to put the "hairs as spikes", there are areas where not only half of its population is illiterate, but where the age of these people is reduced, reaching children and adolescents, in total more than 65 million minors out of school around the planet.
To eradicate this situation, in our country the adult literacy classes, where hope and enthusiasm for learning are mixed with calligraphy and notebooks. The success stories of those people who overcome their daily obligations and their fears and bravely face breaking out of their illiteracy situation allow us to subtract 3% from the number of people each year. illiterate in Spain.
