Three Catalan universities (Autónoma de Barcelona, Pompeu Fabra and Politécnica de Cataluña) and two in Madrid (Autónoma and Carlos III) are among the best in the Quacquarelli Symonds (QS) world ranking of best higher education institutions founded less than 50 years ago.
Thus, the first Spanish university is the Autonomous University of Barcelona, that with 55,6 points are in ninth place of a list headed by Honk Kong University of Science and Technology, with 84,4 points.
For its part, the Autonomous University of Madrid (52,7 points) is placed in 12th place, followed by Pompeu Fabra (41,8 points) in 24. The Carlos III (38,8 points) is placed in the 37th place in this classification, and the Polytechnic of Catalonia (37,2 points) appears in 43rd among 50 universities around the world. Likewise, with 63,8 points, the University of Maastricht (Netherlands) is the first in Europe to gain sixth position.
On an official note, Autónoma de Madrid ensures that it improves its position compared to the previous edition, in which it was ranked 15th. The statement from this Madrid university says verbatim that "the four highest ranked Spanish campuses in the ranking, including the Autonomous University of Madrid, are the promoters of the 'Alliance 4 Universities', a project of excellence to improve the international mobility of students , researchers and academics and establish collaborative research partnerships around the world ”.
