If there is a thorn in my mind, it is to do a volunteer program abroad. Therefore, I have decided to write this article so that the same does not happen to you. Volunteering in Cape Verde
La green sea turtle it is one of the endangered species, according to the list published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature. Therefore, in Cape Verde they are trying to do all the possible work to preserve this beautiful species. The Biodiversidade project is one of the non-profit organizations that collaborates in these preservation tasks.
They are currently looking for volunteers from anywhere in the world to help them this summer (which is when the turtles nest). From their website they encourage anyone who wants to add a work experience in conservation, are taking a break in their career, "or simply want to spend their vacations doing something significant."
Volunteer functions
- Patrol the beaches at night to deter hunters.
- Perform Field work including tagging and measuring turtles.
- Nest relocation and excavation.
Your stay would be in camps that alternate with rest periods in apartments. You would do your work for six days a week and on your free day you can explore the island, enjoy water sports or simply relax and unwind.
Requirements
- Good physical shape, plus mental energy to be able to bear a whole daily patrol.
- Having At least 18 years.
- Understand written and spoken English.
- Ability to withstand demanding conditions and adapt to coexistence with people of different origins and nationalities.
The organization I would cover your accommodation and meals and the application period is open throughout the year.
